Clients don't really need a cool logo

If you are freelancing or working for a firm it's not uncommon to get clients that ask for a "cool logo". This isn't a fault on them, this is how they understand what we do, as that is the result of what a good designer does. When you are presented with said situation you're better off not saying "Sure!" but instead asking, "Why?" because your client never really needs a cool logo, what they need is more sales, more awareness, and more value. As a designer it's your job to find out how you can do accomplish that. If by creating a cool logo based on what your client wants to communicate to their audience will improve value in their brand, then by all means: DO IT!!!

Commonly when I do get into why they want a new "cool logo" and push for making sure there's a specific direction through us to base our decisions on, I'm thanked for it so it's a win-win. They get the result they wanted, you'll get to produce some quality design work :)
